Welcome to Hartwell, GA

Historic Downtown Hartwell was founded in 1954 as the seat of Hart County.  It was incorporated as a town in 1856 and as a city in 1904.  Hartwell is situated just one mile from Lake Hartwell, the third largest Army Corp of Engineers lake in the United States.

Lake Hartwell, one of Hart County's Major Attractions, offers exciting water recreation with over 960 miles of shoreline, parks, campsites, boat in dining and several marinas.

Located between Atlanta and Charlotte, in pristine Northeast GA, Hartwell is easily accessible from I-85 off exit 177.

Downtown Hartwell offers a wide array of retail opportunities, rich arts and crafts options, design and decorator shops and several restaurants from which to choose.

Rich in history, Hartwell is considered to be the Center of the World, or Ah-Yeh-Li A-Lo-Hee, to the Cherokee nation. Hartwell was also the home to textile plants, a Coca-Cola bottling plant, and even home to Nancy Hart - a Revolutionary War Heroine.
