The City of Hartwell has been named Downtown of the Year and has won the Outstanding Community Transformation/Downtown of the Year Award from the Georgia Downtown Association (GDA). This award is given for "outstanding achievement in transforming traditional downtowns in Georgia".
The award was accepted on behalf of Hartwell by Mayor Brandon Johnson, Jason Ford, City Manager Jon Herschell and other City Officials and volunteers who attended the 2023 Georgia Downtown Association Conference at the Canton Theater.
